The Anne van den Ban Scholarship Fund is named after Dr. Ir. Anne van den Ban, former Professor of Rural Extension at Wageningen University. The fund was founded in 1992 by two Wageningen alumni.

The scholarship fund enables promising students from developing countries to study at Wageningen University. As a result, it contributes to the education of competent and motivated local experts, who can then play a leading role in solving the structural problems of their country in agricultural production, rural development and the environment.

Every year, hundreds of students apply to the fund. Your contribution can enable even more students to begin or complete a study at Wageningen University.

"I never dreamed that I would get my undergraduate degree, let alone do a master's degree abroad," says a happy Winnie Raey.

In Kenya, she studied biochemistry and molecular biology. That was not easy, her father didn’t contribute to her study expenses, so she could hardly afford the tuition fees.

Winnie hopes to graduate in Wageningen in September 2011. The Anne van den Ban Fund means a lot to Winnie's life. "It's like someone has taken the trouble to keep a candle burning that nearly extinguished."

"I can't think of a better cause."

Marian Vermuë is a lecturer at the Food and Bioprocess Engineering chair group and study advisor for the Biotechnology study programme. She is one of the members of staff at Wageningen University who contribute to the Anne van den Ban Scholarship Fund.

As a study advisor, she often sees distressing cases of students in financial need. She therefore decided to support the Anne van den Ban Scholarship Fund. “There are many good causes, but I can't think of a better cause than this."
